At a surface elevation of 6,225 ft, it is located along the border between California and Nevada, west of Carson City, Nevada. Lake Tahoe is the largest alpine lake in North America. Its depth is 1,645 feet making it the USA’s second-deepest

source
The lake was formed about 2 million years ago and is a part of the Lake Tahoe Basin with the modern lake being shaped during the ice ages. It is known for the clarity of its water and the panorama of surrounding mountains on all sides. The area surrounding the lake is also referred to as Lake Tahoe, or simply Tahoe.

Lake Tahoe is a major tourist attraction in both Nevada and California. It is home to a number of ski resorts, summer outdoor recreation, and tourist attractions. Snow and skiing are a significant part of the area’s economy and reputation. Mountain and lake scenery are attractions throughout the year. The Nevada side also includes large casinos. Highways provide year-round access from Reno, Carson City and Sacramento.

Mono Lake is a large, shallow saline lake in Mono County, California, formed at least 760,000 years ago as a terminal lake in a basin that has no outlet to the ocean. Because it lacks an outlet, dissolved salts make the lake very alkaline and salty.

This desert lake has an unusually productive ecosystem based on brine shrimp that thrive in its waters, and provides critical nesting habitat for two million annual migratory birds that feed on the shrimp. Mono Lake is also notable for containing GFAJ-1, a rod-shaped extremophile bacterium that may be capable of incorporating the usually poisonous element arsenic into its biochemistry.

The human history of Mono Lake is associated with its productive ecosystem. The native Kutzadika’a people derived nutrition from the larvae of the alkaline flies that live in the lake. When the city of Los Angeles diverted water from flowing into the lake, it lowered the lake level, which imperiled the migratory birds. The Mono Lake Committee formed in response, winning a legal battle that forced Los Angeles to partially restore the lake level.

The Wave is a sandstone rock formation located in the United States of America near the Arizona and Utah border on the slopes of the Coyote Buttes, in the Paria Canyon-Vermilion Cliffs Wilderness, on the Colorado Plateau. It is famous among hikers and photographers for its colorful, undulating forms, and the rugged, trackless hike required to reach it..
The Wave is made of Jurassic-age Navajo Sandstone that is approximately 190 million years old. Scientists who study The Wave say that the old sand dunes turned into hard compacted rock over the ages, calcifying in vertical and horizontal layers. Erosion by wind and rain has created the spectacular landscape which appears now. The soft sandstone of The Wave is fragile, one needs to walk carefully to not break the small ridges.

The Križna Cave (Slovene: Križna jama, literally meaning the Cave of the Cross) is a cave located in the Lož Valley, Slovenia. The cave is particularly noted for its chain of twenty-two subterranean lakes of emerald green water. The cave was first documented in 1832, but the part of the cave which includes lakes and stream passages was first explored by Slovene cavers in 1926. At Kalvarija the cave splits into two branches – the Blata to the north and the Pisani Passage to the north-east. The passage through the Blata is harder so most explorers choose to continue along the Pisani Passage, which requires the use of small boats. The Križna Cave continues into the New Križna Cave.

In the direction from the entrance to the cave, the Pisani Passage is the left gallery of the Križna Cave at the confluence with the Blata at Kalvarija. The access requires the use of boats. Part of the way along the Pisani Passage is a side gallery named the Matjaž Passage (Matjažev rov) and contains several large columns. Continuing along the Pisani Passage the explorer enters the Crystal Mountain (Kristalna gora), the largest room in the cave. The explorer can climb the mountainous pile of collapsed rocks to a point well above the stream.

With 44 species of organisms the Križna Cave is the fourth largest cave ecosystem in the world by biodiversity.
